רכבת הקלה בירושלים תשבית את שירות הציבור למשך חמישה ימים, החל מיום ראשון הקרוב (פברואר 9), לצורך שדרוגים ובדיקות לפני הארכת הקו.

במהלך ההשבתה, שצפויה להימשך עד יום חמישי, יתבצעו נסיעות מבחן לאורך הקו המורחב כולו – מנוה יעקב ועד המרכז הרפואי הדסה עין כרם. הקו המלא מתוכנן להתחיל לפעול בפברואר 14. השבתת השירות חיונית לבדיקת המערכות החדשות ולשילובן.

עיריית ירושלים וחברת כפיר הודיעו כי יתוגברו קווי אוטובוס חלופיים במהלך השבוע. התחבורה החלופית תכלול קווים בין הר הרצל לתחנה המרכזית ועוד שלושה קווים בצפון העיר. בשכונת פסגת זאב יתווספו קווים כדי להקל על תושבים להגיע למרכז העיר וחזרה.

בחברת "כפיר" הדגישו כי ההשבתה הכרחית כחלק מהרחבת הקו, בהתאם לסטנדרטים המקובלים ברכבות עירוניות בעולם. גורמים מקצועיים הסבירו כי חלופות כמו סגירה חלקית או בדיקות ליליות נפסלו בשל הצורך בבדיקות מקיפות לאורך כל המסלול.

Jerusalem’s light rail will suspend public service for five days starting Sunday (Feb. 9) to allow for upgrades and testing ahead of the line’s extension. During this period, test runs will be conducted along the full route, from Neve Yaakov to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center, with the extended line set to open on February 14. The suspension is necessary to integrate new systems. In compensation, the Jerusalem municipality and Cfir will reinforce bus routes, including connections between Mount Herzl and the Central Station, as well as additional routes in northern Jerusalem and Pisgat Ze’ev. Cfir emphasized that the full suspension is essential for thorough testing, as partial closures or nighttime trials were deemed insufficient
